Job Summary
Barings LLC is the investment advisor to three closed-end investment companies that are registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940. Barings Global Short Duration High Yield Fund (“BGH”), Barings Corporate Investors (“MCI”) and Barings Participation Investors (“MPV”) must file quarterly and annual reports with the SEC as well as annual proxy statements. All three funds are publicly traded on the NYSE under the tickers BGH, MCI and MPV, respectively. The financial reporting team that supports Barings’ closed-end funds is the liaison with our third party fund administrator for general ledger accounting and reporting, responsible for all SEC filings, board of director meetings support, investor relations support and other ad hoc information to support the funds’ Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) and Principal Accounting Officer (“PAO”).
This position is responsible for supporting the timely and accurate reporting of Barings’ closed-end funds with the SEC. Position will require an analytical person who can process and prepare information for the inclusion in publicly filed documents with the SEC, board of director meetings and investor presentations. The position will reside in our corporate headquarters in Charlotte, NC, reporting to the Sr. Director of Public Closed-End Fund Reporting.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinate the monthly close process which includes validating trial balances and month-end close schedules from the custodial administrator
- Assist in the preparation of the financial reporting requirements and proxy filings by preparing supporting schedules and related analysis
- Prepare relevant footnote disclosures to support the quarterly and annual SEC filings
- Ensure the accurate compilation and reporting of financial data in accordance with US GAAP and SEC reporting guidance
- Monitor fund transactions and reconcile and resolve differences with the custodial administrator
- Manage external credit facility, including coordination of pledge assets
- Find ways to enhance reporting received from the custodial administrator
- Work with external auditors during quarterly reviews, annual audits and interim test work. Assist in managing external auditors' requests and schedules in order to complete quarterly reviews and annual audits in accordance with reporting deadlines, Board of Director meetings, Audit Committee meetings, etc.
- Ad hoc support and analysis for portfolio management team, CFO and PAO
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- CPA with public accounting experience preferred
- 5+ years of accounting experience, or equivalent direct/relevant experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, with emphasis on Excel
- Experience with Workiva a plus
- Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workload
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills used for the collection and communication of information
- Self-motivated; able to work independently and communicate effectively across company locations and organizational lines
