Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock’s Infrastructure Debt Group within BlackRock Private Debt focuses on infrastructure debt investments in Europe, North America, LatAm and APAC. The types of infrastructure sectors targeted include transportation, social infrastructure, power, energy and utilities, water and wastewater, and telecoms. Our private markets Infrastructure Debt team is the largest in the world and currently manages more than $21bn of AUM, of which circa $16bn is invested across 160 assets globally.

Job Purpose/Background:

BlackRock Infrastructure Debt has an opportunity for a qualified candidate to join the Infrastructure Debt team in London. The candidate will report into the Global Head of Infrastructure Debt Asset Management and have responsibility for supporting BlackRock’s infrastructure debt investment business and driving the design, implementation and operation of a scalable asset management framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with our asset management and investment teams to support the development of a global market leading and scalable asset management platform to manage our investments;

  • Performing asset management responsibilities for assigned investments, including compliance and performance monitoring, preparation and presentation of investor reporting, tracking material counterparties’ performance;

  • Partnering with investment team to evaluate requests for waivers or requests that involve significant credit issues or relationship matters, and prepare recommendations for senior management or the Investment Committee;

  • Overseeing junior members of the team in delivering asset management tasks.

In addition, the role may include:

  • Supporting implementation of technology solutions (eFront + Aladdin) towards advancing Infra Debt reporting and analytical capabilities in credit risk and ESG;

  • Working with relevant Infra Debt Business Partners including Risk & Quantitative Analysis (RQA), Product Strategy and Sustainable Investing teams on matters pertaining to portfolio risk monitoring, data collection and ESG reporting; 

  • Identifying additional areas of work that we should address in our asset management framework to provide a full scope of services to our clients and internal stakeholders;

  • Identifying additional analysis and analytics that would assist in the management of Infrastructure Debt assets;

  • Working with other asset managers in Private Debt to identify best practices in credit asset management;

  • Specifying an improved approach to asset management for the product and socializing this with senior management; and

  • Driving the implementation of the above, and its operation in steady state.

Knowledge/Experience:

Candidates will have experience in credit and asset management with an understanding of the requirements for managing a complex portfolio of credit assets. The successful candidate will be a self-starting, motivated and organized individual with a strong sense of ownership in their role. They will be highly analytical with demonstrable financial modelling and evaluation skills and the ability to define and work to deadline.  Their experience might include:

  • Change management or project management in banking of financial services;

  • Portfolio management and portfolio analytics for credit investments;

  • An understanding of the infrastructure sector;

  • A thorough understanding of project finance structuring and documentation;

  • Credit analysis and evaluation;

  • Negotiating transaction terms & conditions and documentation;

  • Management and work-out of non-performing loans;

  • Driving the development of portfolio management systems and processes;

  • Enthusiasm and commitment to working in a friendly, entrepreneurial team environment;

  • Strong written/verbal communication skills and a demonstrated attention to detail.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Strong academic background including Bachelor’s degree in engineering, finance, economics, mathematics/statistics, or a related field;

  • CFA, CAIA, MBA or advanced degree preferred;

  • Strong credit analysis and project finance modelling skills;

  • Fluency in English plus at least one major European language would be considered advantageous.

Our hybrid work model
