About this role
BlackRock seeks a skilled Associate Software Developer for the Private Asset Calculation Engine (PACE) team. PACE powers alternatives performance and risk analytics across BlackRock's eFront platform, delivering mission-critical calculations for private equity, real estate, infrastructure, and private credit investments.
You'll contribute to an enterprise-scale financial analytics platform impacting billions in assets under management, working alongside experienced engineers, quantitative analysts, and product specialists to build robust, scalable solutions for global institutional investors.
Key Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain microservices using Java 17, Spring Boot 3.5, and gRPC for high-performance financial analytics
Build calculation engines for alternative investment metrics (IRR, TWR, TVPI, DPI) and implement Protocol Buffer schemas for efficient data serialization
Develop RESTful and gRPC APIs, optimize performance of computation-intensive algorithms, and implement caching strategies using Redis
Write comprehensive unit and integration tests (JUnit 5, Mockito, Maven Surefire) and participate in cloud-native deployments (Docker, Kubernetes, Azure DevOps)
Integrate external data providers (FX services, ESG platforms, benchmarking providers) and engage in code reviews and technical design discussions
Develop knowledge of alternative investment financial calculations including cashflow analysis, NAV calculations, and performance attribution
Collaborate with quantitative analysts to implement and validate sophisticated financial models ensuring data accuracy and proper transaction taxonomy
Qualifications
Required Experience & Technical Skills
3-5 years of professional software development experience in production environments
Strong proficiency in Java programming (Java 11 minimum; Java 17 preferred) including object-oriented design principles and core libraries
Demonstrated experience with Spring Framework ecosystem including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, and dependency injection patterns
Solid understanding of microservices architecture principles and RESTful API design best practices
Proficiency with Maven for build automation, dependency management, and project lifecycle management
Practical experience with relational database systems and SQL, including query writing and basic optimization
Strong unit testing capabilities utilizing JUnit and Mockito frameworks with understanding of test-driven development principles
Version control proficiency with Git including branching strategies, merge workflows, and collaborative development practices
Working knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker) and cloud platforms (Azure)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with gRPC framework and Protocol Buffers for efficient inter-service communication
Knowledge of distributed caching technologies and implementations (Redis, Hazelcast)
Familiarity with message queue systems and event-driven architecture patterns (Azure Service Bus, Apache Kafka)
Experience with performance optimization techniques and profiling tools for identifying and resolving bottlenecks
Understanding of CI/CD pipeline concepts and tools (Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar platforms)
Working knowledge of Kubernetes and cloud-native application development principles
Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, or data analysis tasks
Exposure to financial services technology or investment analytics platforms
Basic understanding of financial metrics such as IRR, returns calculations, or asset valuations
Demonstrated ability to comprehend complex business logic and translate requirements into effective technical implementations
Prior experience in FinTech, asset management, or financial services organizations is beneficial though not required
