The Role:
Blue Owl is seeking a collaborative, motivated and organized Senior Associate / Associate to join our Deal Execution team, primarily supporting the Alternative Credit business. This individual will have the unique opportunity to sit alongside our underwriting and investing professionals to help manage a wide range of operational workflows covering the full lifecycle of an investment. The Deal Execution team liaises directly with key external stakeholders (sponsors, borrowers, co-investors, custodians) and an extensive set of internal constituents (deal team, Accounting, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Capital Markets) to ensure seamless closing, funding and process management of all transactions across the Blue Owl credit portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong base of product knowledge across a broad set of private credit asset types (consumer loans, commercial loans, ABS/securitizations, unitranche direct lending, credit secondaries) and robust operational experience in the space (closing/settlement, funds flows, credit agreement review, workflow design/change management), along with a keen interest in credit markets and a team-first attitude.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a comprehensive deal closing/transaction coordination process for Alternative Credit originations by liaising directly with sponsors and borrowers, Blue Owl investment professionals and other key internal stakeholders (Accounting, Legal, Tax, Operations) to ensure seamless operational execution (funding, closing)
- Responsible for drafting and executing comprehensive funds flows for each investment and overseeing front-to-back process checklists to ensure all deliverables associated with capital deployment are executed accurately and timely (pre-close & post-close), including but not limited to pipeline management, capital availability/liquidity management, fund allocations, legal entity / structure chart formation, KYC/AML deliverables and coordination of treasury/funding mechanics
- Partner with our investing, legal and operations teams to review credit agreements and related legal documentation for each investment, with joint oversight of new deal product builds and asset enrichment, along with full responsibility to book commitment activity in an order management system to facilitate downstream flow to the firm’s books and records.
- Oversee our core external loan agency/loan servicing vendor relationships by monitoring all post-close lifecycle activity (amendments, principal & interest payments), ensuring borrowers and lenders have their positions administered accurately and efficiently, and assessing key areas for process improvement across the operational control framework.
- Collaborate with our Portfolio Management and Data Science teams to ensure reporting accuracy and timeliness of key investment metrics, which inform various portfolio KPIs and valuations for senior management and external stakeholders (investors, LPs)
- Help drive major cross divisional process improvement and change management projects within the firm, with a sharp focus on data integrity, automation and standardization of best practices.
- Directly consult and interact with our sponsors and portfolio company CFO/finance teams across a diverse set of post-closing needs and ad-hoc requests (including financial reporting and loan administration).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.5+ (or equivalent), preferably in finance, economics, engineering and/or computer science
- 3-7 years of experience in a leveraged finance/credit operations, middle office/transaction management or other operational risk management function (private credit / direct lending experience strongly preferred)
- Experience with and understanding of operational loan mechanics and core legal documents (credit agreements, purchase agreements, subscription documents)
- Highly organized and able to interact efficiently and directly with deal team/investment professionals
- Ability to multi-task and maintain consistent attention to detail while working in a fast-paced environment
- Strong proficiency across full suite of Microsoft Office tools; experience with WSO, DealCloud, IVP, SharePoint, order management systems, funding platforms, ledgers and/or project management tools are a plus)
- Commitment to teamwork and resourcefulness with a consensus-driven approach to problem solving
- Passion for learning, ability to think critically to solve complex problems and desire to propose new ideas / leverage technology to drive change
- Outstanding interpersonal skills with ability to build and maintain relationships
- Sharp written and verbal communication skills with ability to summarize complicated fact sets, anticipate potential issues and follow through to ensure all deliverables are completed timely
It is expected that the base annual salary range for this New York City-based position will be $150,000 - $175,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
