Overview
Blue Owl Capital is seeking a Vice President to support the Market Trends & Analytics function within its GP Stakes business. This role focuses on extracting insight from large, proprietary datasets to understand how private markets are evolving in practice—not just as reported by third-party data providers or reflected in market commentary.
The GP Strategic Capital platform within Blue Owl is dedicated to acquiring minority equity stakes in and providing long-term financing to established alternative asset managers. Since December 2011, the team has formed 70+ partnerships with leading institutional quality alternative asset management firms. GPSC is seeking to add a member to its Investment Team with a data governance background. This individual will bear day-to-day responsibility for managing the data workflow and governance programs within the business unit.
The role is designed for an experienced analytical professional who is highly comfortable working with data at scale: shaping raw information, testing assumptions, and making deliberate analytical choices about how trends are measured and presented. This is a non-client-facing role with meaningful influence on internal decision-making and external perspectives.
The Vice President will be the primary owner of deep analytical work within the Market Trends & Analytics function, while working closely with research, portfolio monitoring, and data colleagues. The role is collaborative but intentionally structured to minimise internal politics and maximise focus, autonomy, and quality of output.
This is intentionally a senior individual-contributor role. While responsibility, influence, and scope can grow over time, the position is not designed as a people-management or client-facing role. You will have the ability to Access to a proprietary dataset offering rare visibility into GP-level and fund-level private markets dynamics. As well as the opportunity to shape internal investment views and underwriting assumptions and direct involvement in external thought leadership grounded in real underlying data.
Role & Responsibilities
The Vice President will be responsible for building and owning analytical outputs that sit at the core of the GP Stakes platform. Responsibilities include:
Working with large, complex, and imperfect datasets covering GP economics, fundraising activity, fund structures, and portfolio performance
Cleaning, normalizing, and structuring data to make it suitable for longitudinal analysis and scenario testing
Designing and running analytical scenarios to explore market trends and sensitivities, including alternative ways of framing results (e.g. value-weighted vs count-based analysis, cohort definitions, structural adjustments)
Iterating quickly on analysis in response to senior input—refining assumptions, methodologies, and presentation as questions evolve
Producing analysis that informs internal decision-making, including underwriting assumptions and views on long-term market dynamics
Contributing to external research and thought leadership that helps investors and GP partners reconcile what they see in the media, PitchBook, or Preqin with what is actually happening on the ground
Working closely with the Portfolio Monitoring team to ensure outputs reflect real GP- and fund-level experience
Partnering with an internal data scientist responsible for data cleansing, automation, and tooling, with clear ownership of analytical logic and interpretation
Required Skills & Qualification
We are looking for a genuinely data-savvy, analytically rigorous professional who enjoys working through complexity rather than relying on standard templates. The ideal candidate will bring:
Strong experience working hands-on with large datasets and making judgement calls about how data should be treated, structured, and interpreted
Comfort moving beyond surface-level outputs to question assumptions, methodologies, and edge cases
Experience with financial or quantitative data; familiarity with asset management or private markets is helpful but not essential
A background that may include asset management, accounting, consulting, research, data analytics, or analytically intensive roles in other sectors
Experience operating in professional environments with limited supervision, owning work end-to-end
A collaborative approach with a genuine interest in producing high-quality analytical work
Expertise building and refining analysis, testing ideas, and developing well-reasoned views over time
It is expected that the base annual salary range for this New York City-based position will be $200,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
