Our Operations groups are core to the success of the Markets business and have significant impact across the lifecycle of a trade. We partner extensively with a range of internal stakeholders including Front Office Sales and Trading Desks, Compliance, Legal, Finance and HR; alongside having significant interaction with our external client base, playing a key role in the overall client experience. We have a client relationship group dedicated to overseeing the group’s service performance and strategic partnership for our top tier client base, where we play a key role in supporting our global clients to ensure they have a first-class experience when doing business with Citi.
Our Technology partners develop and implement a wide range of applications that support the Operations team in providing innovative products and solutions. Data lineage and optimization is core to how we develop our eco system. We are growing our capabilities using artificial intelligence, natural language processing and machine learning.

Job Purpose:
The Head of Equities and Syndicates Middle Office, and OTC Confirms for Japan, Asia North and Australia (JANA), and Asia South will report to the Global functional Head and have a matrix reporting line to the Regional Head of Markets Operations. The role’s oversight will span 12 sites and approximately 65 employees in the region.
The individual will play a key role in our Operations strategy, driving progression towards our target operating model, with a strong focus on the risk and control environment, while enhancing service capabilities, simplifying and transforming our platforms, and leading a proactive people agenda.
The individual will have accountability for daily supervisory risk and service oversight, ensuring that the objectives of Operations, the Business and our Clients are executed to a high standard and in accordance with regulatory and control requirements.
JANA and Asia South are positioned to be key growth drivers for the Equities business, successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting and enabling this growth.
Organizational Oversight:
- Overseeing and leading daily core operations maintaining a culture and environment where processes, risks and controls are continually monitored, and potential risks escalated on a timely basis as well as acting as a senior point of escalation
- Developing an effective control framework that fully meets Audit, Compliance and Regulatory requirements; delivery of periodic presentations to external regulators as required
- Ensuring the infrastructure and tools are in place to effectively manage risk and service our clients to a high standard
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Acting as key point of contact for JANA and South Asia Equities Operations across internal and external stakeholders and Operational Product Heads
- Continued engagement and face off with a range of senior Business, Technology and Operations partners
- Acting as senior Operations lead managing due diligence visits and other governance forums
- Supporting and partnering with the Business to facilitate a growing and expanding client base / operational offering
- Engaging in client discussions & relationship management activities as required to support the Business

Organizational Transformation:
- Leading the Organization to deliver vs goals to meet the Target Operating Model
- Leading the site to simplify, improve and measure processes by delivering enhancements to the control environment, and the customer journey with input to design techniques and digital automation
- Supporting the delivery of strategic platform re-engineering initiatives, with conscious intent to standardize and industrial flow, reducing manual touch points and aligning tech delivery vs. business goal and wallet share optimization
- Driving the implementation of initiatives to continuously improve STP rates and build scalable business model leveraging on innovation, using low code solutions and challenging the status quo.
- Active engagement and thought leadership in the development and implementation of multi-year operations strategy, in partnership with the Operational Product Heads, Business and Technology stakeholders
- Managing budgets and headcount plans to meet targets
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree with a Business Administration, Finance or other equivalent background
- Min 20 years of experiences in the financial industry, including significant experience in managing large operations team supporting Equities Franchise in Asian Markets (including Japan).
- In-depth understanding of local regulations covering Equity Securities. The candidate should have experience in the support of Equity products across Derivatives, Prime, Delta 1, Cash Equities, SBL, ECM /DCM Syndicate across Asia
- Experience in delivering strategic change programs spanning multiple years in a fast paced, large global financial services firm, ideally in an operations organization
- Experience in leading the build out of China onshore broker dealer for securities and Futures
- Led and built out large Operations teams/technology supporting large Prime / High Frequency / Quant flows in China, Taiwan, Korea and India.
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive; a leader who can positively and productively add product impact to both strategic and tactical technology
- Strong, influential communicator who is articulate and concise, demonstrated success interacting with senior management both in the business, corporate functions as well as the Operations, Business and Technology environments
- Track record of proven interaction with regional regulators, HKMA / SFC (ie Hong Kong MIC) / Broker dealer / Bank branch board member.
- Self-reliant, good problem solver, results oriented
- Demonstrated experience leading people and developing effective and diverse teams
- Ability to establish and build trust with professionals throughout the business as a leader, advisor and business partner to the organization with a clear client orientation.
- Strong awareness of both external and internal best practice perspectives, maintaining a balanced and fresh viewpoint.
- Ability to conceptualize aspects of the organization’s model and its future development.
