Your opportunity

Janus Henderson Investors is seeking a Principal Engineer – Release & Platform Environments to provide hands‑on technical leadership across Release, Environment, and Test Data Management (RED Framework) within the Infrastructure & Cloud Operations team.

This role is accountable for defining, implementing, and operating enterprise‑grade release and environment management capabilities across hybrid platforms, supporting business‑critical systems including Aladdin, and enabling strategic programmes across Business, Infrastructure, and Cloud Operations.

The role combines deep engineering expertise with ownership of standards, policies, patterns, and frameworks, ensuring releases are predictable, environments are production‑ready, and test data is compliant and fit for purpose across the SDLC.

Release Management (RM)

  • Own and execute end‑to‑end release management across development, test, UAT, staging, and production.
  • Lead hands‑on release execution using Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines across cloud and on‑prem platforms.
  • Coordinate complex, multi‑application and multi‑vendor releases, including Aladdin platform releases and integrations.
  • Define and enforce release management standards, policies, calendars, and quality gates.
  • Ensure release readiness through technical validation, risk assessment, and go/no‑go governance.
  • Design and maintain deployment, rollback, and recovery strategies.
  • Produce and maintain release artefacts, including runbooks, deployment procedures, and change records.
  • Drive continuous improvement in release reliability, speed, and risk reduction.

Test Environment Management (TEM)

  • Design, provision, and manage end‑to‑end platform environments across Azure and on‑prem infrastructure.
  • Own environment lifecycle management, including build, refresh, patching, upgrade, and decommissioning.
  • Define and enforce environment standards, configuration baselines, and version alignment across the SDLC.
  • Lead environment refresh activities to ensure production parity and test reliability.
  • Implement environment automation and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform knowledge is an added benefit).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex environment and deployment issues, acting as senior technical escalation.
  • Define environment strategies and roadmaps aligned to platform and cloud transformation initiatives.

Test Data Management (TDM)

  • Ensure availability of fit‑for‑purpose, compliant test data aligned to release and environment schedules.
  • Define and implement test data management standards and patterns.
  • Coordinate test data refresh, masking, anonymisation, and synthetic data strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reduce test failures caused by data quality, availability, or compliance issues.

RED Framework – Automation, Reliability & Governance

  • Embed the RED Framework (Release, Environment, Data) into engineering and operational practices.
  • Define and implement standards, policies, and reusable patterns for release, environment, and data management.
  • Drive automation-first approaches across CI/CD, environment provisioning, and data refresh.
  • Implement post‑deployment validation, health checks, and release assurance controls.
  • Lead root cause analysis of release, environment, or data failures and implement preventative improvements.
  • Ensure alignment with security, access control, audit, and regulatory standards.

Strategic Programmes & Collaboration

  • Play a key engineering role in Aladdin transition and ongoing platform evolution.
  • Support cloud migration, platform modernisation, and infrastructure transformation programmes.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, QA, Architecture, Security, and Operations teams.
  • Act as a technical authority for release and environment management within Infrastructure & Cloud Ops.
  • Provide hands‑on mentoring and technical guidance to engineers across teams.
