What You’ll Do

Are you a detail-oriented payroll professional looking to take the next step in your career? We’re seeking a Payroll Tax Supervisor to lead our in-house payroll tax compliance efforts and contribute to strategic projects, backed by the strong Payroll leadership team. You'll play a key part in documenting procedures, supporting cross-functional payroll initiatives, and reviewing Partner payroll transactions on a semimonthly basis.   • Drive Payroll Tax Accuracy: Take ownership of timely and precise payroll tax filings and payments, and confidently handle correspondence from tax authorities.
  • Be the Go-To for Agency Setup: Lead company registrations with state and local agencies, ensuring payroll tax accounts are correctly established and maintained.
  • Own Year-End Success: Manage the preparation and delivery of W-2 and W-2c forms, overseeing amendments and ensuring full compliance with tax regulations.
  • Stay Ahead of the Curve: Monitor evolving Federal, State, and Local tax laws—including paid leave policies—and ensure our practices stay compliant and up to date.
  • Make an Impact on Systems: Play a key role in testing and validating PeopleSoft tax updates and system configurations to support smooth payroll operations.
  • Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with Payroll, Tax, HR, and HRIS to ensure seamless, accurate payroll experiences for employees across the organization.

What You’ll Bring

  • 5+ years of multi-state payroll experience, ideally in a law firm or professional services setting, plus a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPP certification a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and reporting requirements
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and written/verbal communication
  • Proactive and adaptable with strong customer service skills and leadership potential
  • Proficient in Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables), Word, and ideally PeopleSoft

Compensation

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position in Chicago. This range may differ based on your geographic location and cost of living considerations. At Kirkland & Ellis, we consider compensation more than just a base salary. Compensation Range

  • Chicago: $135,000 - $145,000
