The role:
We are looking for an Impact Investing Senior Associate to support our private credit funds in the first place and ensure consistent approach to impact strategies across the wider private markets business as we continue growing.
The role will support our impact investing capabilities through due diligence, underwrite, and engagement with potential and existing portfolio companies, as well as driving and enhancing our impact measurement and management approach, supporting impact reporting and regulatory adherence while working closely with other across the business.
The Impact Investing Senior Associate will need to be able to work collaboratively across the with a wide range of stakeholders across the private markets business and portfolio companies.
Key responsibilities for this role:
- Support the analysis of pipeline opportunities, providing impact due diligence to accompany investment diligence undertaken by the investment team. Respond to ad-hoc queries from the investment team.
- Supporting the development of IMM processes, in line with market best practice and evolving guidance.
- Monitor impact performance of investees and portfolio companies on an ongoing basis. Each product will have quarterly and annual reporting requirements.
- Conduct investee engagement on a variety of issues including corporate purpose/intent, sustainability and impact performance, disclosure of impact metrics, alignment with sustainability and impact goals, and management of ESG/Impact risks.
- Record and measure these engagements and outcomes. Maintain database monitoring progress on portfolio-level and investee-level impacts over time.
- Keep abreast of regulatory changes and developments, and ensure the portfolio is positioned to adhere to these.
- Support with annual impact reporting as well as delivering ad hoc thought pieces and other external communications
- Contribute to the wider sustainable and impact agenda in areas including regulatory and policy-related developments, engagement with external parties, impact frameworks and standards, in coalition with other funds and Impact leaders across M&G.
- Maintain and enhance funds Impact Framework and approach, keep abreast of market developments and engage with industry bodies, including regulators, standard setting bodies (GIIN. IRIS+, IMP) and other impact leaders in the market.
- Responding to internal and external information requests, including impact reporting
Key knowledge, skills and experience:
- A passion for impact investing and sustainability is essential and an understanding of sustainability matters in the context of financial services, and particularly private markets would be desirable.
- Demonstrable understanding of impact measurement and management methodologies across multiple social and environmental issues
- Proven ability to work with companies seeking to achieve a positive impact from initial engagement to ongoing monitoring and reporting
- Experience of impact communication and reporting to varied audiences
- Proven history of relationship management and collaborative working
- Working knowledge of sustainability regulation e.g. SFDR and SDR
- Excellent communication skills, including both written and verbal.
- Effective stakeholder engagement/management, and ability to build good relationships internally and externally
- Ability to produce high quality reports/deliverables suitable for a senior audience
- Excellent writing skills
- Ideally an ability to synthesize information from complex data sets into simplified outputs for stakeholders
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Proactive with individual accountability; takes ownership to drive delivery forwards without instruction.
- Effective problem-solving skills to design and implement solutions.
- Integrity and strong work ethic with a positive outlook and belief in our purpose. Self-starter, with strong time management skills, ability to deliver under pressure, prioritise to produce results and communicate challenges
