Platform Owner – IaaS and Unstructured Data
Job Summary
As M&G advances its Cloud Only strategy and transitions away from legacy infrastructure support models, there is a critical need for strong leadership and strategic ownership of our Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platforms and unstructured data estate. This role plays a pivotal part in ensuring the resilience, security, and operational excellence of core services including Wintel, Windows and Red Hat Linux operating systems, and data platforms such as NetApp, Azure Files, and Windows File Servers.
The Platform Owner will lead the transformation of these services into modern, cloud-native operations. This includes implementing robust tooling for backup, patching, automation, and monitoring, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with business continuity objectives. The role will work closely with Cloud Engineering & Operations, business stakeholders, and external partners to deliver scalable, secure, and efficient infrastructure services.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and deliver a 3-year strategic roadmap for IaaS and unstructured data platforms aligned to M&G’s Cloud Only journey.
- Lead the transformation of infrastructure services from legacy providers to modern, cloud-native solutions.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to platform engineers and data specialists, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Implement and manage tooling for backup, patching, automation (e.g. Ansible, Azure Automation), and monitoring to support platform reliability and efficiency.
- Ensure platform resilience and data protection through effective backup strategies and integration with business continuity planning.
- Drive adoption and optimisation of Azure IaaS services, ensuring scalability, cost control, and performance.
- Collaborate with business areas to classify and archive data in line with retention and compliance requirements.
- Work with business continuity teams to ensure compliance with DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act) and other regulatory frameworks.
- Own platform controls, audit readiness, and risk management across IaaS and unstructured data domains.
- Partner with operations teams to ensure platform stability, performance monitoring, and issue resolution.
- Define and enforce policies, procedures, and standards for platform governance, data security, and operational excellence.
- Oversee architecture and service design for compute, storage, and data platforms, ensuring scalability and resilience.
- Collaborate with technology and business teams to deliver infrastructure solutions that meet evolving needs.
- Manage platform-related projects, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
- Stay informed on emerging technologies and trends, recommending improvements and innovations.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in infrastructure engineering and platform management, with expertise in Windows/Linux OS, virtualisation, and cloud-native services.
- Proven experience managing unstructured data platforms including NetApp, Azure Files, and other enterprise storage solutions.
- Strong understanding of IaaS models, cloud transformation, and service integration.
- Hands-on experience with backup solutions, patching frameworks, and automation tooling.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical programmes and manage multiple projects.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience working with external vendors and service providers.
- Relevant certifications such as Azure, AWS, GCP, VMware, or equivalent are preferred.
