The Role:
This role is to coordinate and support on the implementation of sustainability across private markets. The successful candidate will act as an interface between the investment desks, COO of Private Markets, the Sustainability and Stewardship team and enterprise-wide functions where sustainability-linked processes must be operationalised.
The Sustainability Coordinator will help drive robust and consistent approaches to ESG integration, and sustainable/impact investing across all our private markets desks. The role will report to the COO of Private Markets, and have a dotted line to the Head of Sustainability, Private Markets/Head of Sustainable Investment Frameworks. The role will serve as an interface between the private markets teams and core operating platform functions, including Technology, Data, Client Reporting, RFP/DDQ, supporting the COO and/or the Head of Sustainability Private Markets/Head of Sustainable Investment Frameworks as required.
The role will support our on desk sustainability resources and investment teams in integrating ESG into the investment approaches, deliver client-centric product level sustainability and impact commitments, ensure regulatory compliance (e.g. SFDR, SDR), as well as supporting on codifying our approach on thematic or asset class specific aspects (for example Global Norms, human rights etc) and putting in place the associated operational processes and governance requirements. They will support in the delivery of activities related to private markets including supporting on the development and roll out of new frameworks, policies, as well as supporting on the implementation of these frameworks.
The postholder will need to be able to work collaboratively across our private markets teams, with the wider Sustainability & Stewardship team as well as with a wide range of stakeholders across the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supporting the integration of sustainability frameworks and policies for private markets, working closely with the embedded desk sustainability resources and wider teams to do this
- Collaborating with desks and internal stakeholders to support on new product development and methodologies to better meet client expectations and regulatory changes
- Help scale up our activities in the development of thematic and asset class specific frameworks/policies working in collaboration with the desks to do so. Drive continuous improvement in ESG related process by identifying bottlenecks, automating manual tasks and ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and investor needs
- Support on the development and delivery of training, playbooks and operational toolkits on ESG thematics, initiatives and/or related to frameworks or the wider S&S activities. Coordinate wider communications and updates to the PM ESG resources on ESG related wider initiatives
- Foster collaboration and ESG integration across teams, coordinate wider initiatives across private markets Represent private markets in wider AM forum, in collaboration with head of private markets and COO as required. Design prioritisation of ESG initiatives and PM representation in the relevant governance forums. Liaise with sustainability programme and central sustainability teams to represent PM and ensure prompt and effective delivery
- Enhance the operational effectiveness of ESG delivery across private markets, including ESG data strategy, reporting and other wider operational frameworks to ensure the relevant model are strengthen and designed to support the teams in implementing the relevant strategies. Lead the refinement of ESG operating procedures to improve efficiency, accuracy and consistency.
- Work closely with Product teams to ensure consistent application of frameworks and approaches, coupled with supporting the broader S&S team on Product-related requirements
Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- A passion for sustainability is essential
- Understanding of investment, client and operational capabilities required in an asset manager operating model; and effective change management.
- Experience working on sustainability within the financial services sector, and ideally private markets investment management
- Working knowledge of sustainability regulation e.g. SFDR and SDR
- Excellent understanding of operational side of ESG, at design and implementation level and interest in getting involved in the details of the relevant operations and resolve day to day issues as well as designing wider strategic initiatives
- Excellent communication skills, including both written and verbal
- Effective stakeholder engagement/management, and ability to build good relationships internally and externally
- Ability to produce high quality reports/deliverables suitable for a senior audience
- Excellent writing skills
- Ideally an ability to synthesize information from complex data sets into simplified outputs for stakeholders
- Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate effectively within a team environment
- Proactive with individual accountability; takes ownership to drive delivery forwards without instruction
- Effective problem-solving skills to design and implement solutions
- Integrity and strong work ethic with a positive outlook and belief in our purpose. Self-starter, with strong time management skills, ability to deliver under pressure, prioritise to produce results and communicate challenges
