Portfolio Analyst

The M&G Life & Investment Office (LIO) is responsible for the management of Prudential UK’s With-Profits, Annuity and Unit-Linked funds, with more than £150bn of funds under management. LIO works closely with the various asset management businesses within the M&G, and other external managers, to structure multi-asset portfolios aligned with the investment objectives of our clients.

The Multi Portfolio Analyst will work with other Portfolio Analysts and Portfolio Managers on the range of funds managed by the team. This is a great opportunity for someone with an understanding of/ interest in investment strategies and a strong proactive and flexible mindset, who is looking to develop skills and experience within the Analyst role.

Note: this is a non SMCR role

Key Responsibilities for this role:

  • Management of multi asset portfolios aiming to achieve client objectives while adhering to internal constraints/governance and relevant regulations
  • Assist in the day-to-day management of the funds to ensure they meet their performance objectives within agreed risk tolerances

Key Duties include:

  • Ensuring the portfolio is positioned in line with its strategic asset allocation
  • Becoming expert in internal operational dynamics
  • Working with the Long-Term Investment Strategy team to recommend and implement appropriate changes to strategic allocations
  • Working with the Manager Oversight team to ensure underlying mandates are performing in line with their objectives
  • Liaising with fund managers of underlying mandates to ensure that their portfolios are aligned with the overall strategy of the fund
  • Team reporting to various stakeholders (client, investment committees, etc) on the performance and positioning of the portfolio
  • Support distribution channel colleagues in their marketing and client-servicing activities as appropriate
  • Producing management information and reporting on multi asset portfolios
  • Working on Portfolio transition / other projects – partnering with project teams, and other L&IO teams to achieve launch and good customer outcomes.
  • Ad hoc project work
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&G’s operational risk

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrable buy-side investment management experience
  • Understanding of operational dynamics
  • Understanding of investment strategies and instruments used in multi-asset portfolios
  • Understanding of investment risk
  • Analytical and quantitative skills
  • Ability to manage projects to a successful conclusion
  • Strong organizational skills (able to handle multiple priorities)
  • Clear written and oral communication skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter and “team player”
  • Ability to build and sustain internal and external relationships
