The Role:
The National Accounts Director is a home-based, field role within M&G Life distribution, responsible for driving the development and growth of both established and emerging National Accounts. The role leads a team to deliver outstanding sales results, fosters strong relationships with key head office personnel, regional leaders, managers, and advisers, and ensures the integration of M&G Life propositions into client offerings to create mutual value. Collaboration across Sales, Sales Support, and other key departments is essential to provide a consistent and comprehensive account management service for National Accounts.
Key Responsibilities for this role
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of direct reports to deliver sales revenue targets across established and emerging National Accounts.
- Build, maintain, and deepen multi-level relationships with key head office and regional contacts within target accounts, ensuring a consistent and high-quality account management approach.
- Identify and develop new growth opportunities within National Accounts, leveraging consultative selling techniques and innovative propositions.
- Develop and execute strategic account plans in line with business objectives, ensuring all activity and processes are documented according to channel standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Sales, Marketing, Operations, Risk, Legal, Technical, Specialists & LIO) to deliver integrated solutions and support business growth.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of company and competitor propositions, market trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all activities remain compliant with policy, legislation, and risk appetite.
- Take personal accountability for improving controls to enhance the control environment, improve client outcomes, and reduce operational risk.
- Represent the company at industry events and with external organizations as required.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide a high-quality service to National Account clients and stakeholders, drawing on significant practical experience and expertise.
- Operate within established frameworks and procedures, using sound judgment to interpret and apply them to a range of complex situations.
- Proactively identify and suggest improvements to team practices and outputs, driving better working practices and collaborative results.
- Take responsibility for personal and team development, including participation in company-sponsored training and continuous professional development.
- Strengthen the organization’s positive risk and control culture by identifying, assessing, and managing risk within the business area, ensuring all regulatory, legal, and industry obligations are met.
- Demonstrate and promote the company’s Code of Conduct in all activities and decision-making.
- Comply with all relevant policies, including completion of mandatory training and CPD requirements
Key Requirements:
- Essential – Expert knowledge of life, pension and investment products
- Essential – Expert knowledge of financial planning techniques, processes and methodologies
- Essential – Working knowledge of the advice market in UK financial services
- Desirable – Working knowledge of Risk and Compliance environments
- Desirable – Working knowledge of Office tools, M&G systems
- Desirable – Working knowledge of industry best practices, good networks and links to external bodies and individuals
- Essential - Experience in negotiating and influencing
- Desirable – Experience in reporting to and influencing senior management
- Desirable – Experience in working in a risk and / or regulatory Compliance environment
