We are seeking a “Senior Lead Engineer” for Cash and Currency Platform with the right blend of software engineering, data skills and domain knowledge to thrive. As Lead Engineer you will work closely with the Senior Change Lead for Cash and Currency Platform, Cash and Currency stakeholders, third-party vendors as well as technology colleagues within other areas of Investment Platform.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

• Owning the engineering roadmap for Cash and Currency Platform, driving continuous improvement in ways of working, leveraging emerging technologies, driving automation and supporting the adoption of best practices
• Deliver business prioritised changes on time and within budget
• Acting as technical lead and overseeing the quality of engineering delivered by Cash and Currency Platform
• Ensuring any solutions being designed within Cash and Currency Platform meet M&G’s exacting standards
• Fostering strong relationships with other technology key stakeholders – Change Managers, Engineering Leads, Enterprise Architecture, SRE, IDP and other Investment Platform squads
• Playing an active role in the Investment Platform engineering community, learning and sharing, representing Cash and Currency Platform in the Lead Engineering forum and disseminating best practice as well as contributing to it
• Develop scalable solutions for Cash and Currency across both Cash and FX asset classes in an agile development environment
• Lead solution design sessions and the grooming of the offshore team ahead of sprints, present confidently and articulately at the architecture approval forums
• Lead technical improvements within Cash and Currency Platform
• Identify and implement best practices within Cash and Currency Platform
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to Cash and Currency Platform team members
• Build and maintain strong relationships with all members of Cash and Currency Platform, and Cash and Currency
• Consistently identify improvement opportunities within the team and implement processes, ways of working or facilitate training to address improvement opportunities

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (KEY):

• Advanced software engineering skills paired with expertise in some of the following programming languages: C#, Java, Python, Javascript, HTML/CSS or equivalent
• Experience of designing and building complex and highly performant UIs with a focus on excellent UX
• Able to evaluate and write complex SQL statements
• A good understanding of DevOps principles and experience in building CI/CD pipelines
• Strong experience working with data on Azure including SQL, ADLA, Cosmos DB and Data Factory
• Demonstrates architectural excellence by developing solutions using the guiding tenets of the Azure Well-Architected Framework covering reliability, security, cost optimisation, operational excellence and performance efficiency
• Has good Azure experience on PaaS services such as App Service, Function App, Logic App, Data Factory, Service Bus and Key Vault
• Understands Azure AD, Service Principals and Managed Identities to configure role based access for web applications
• Is able to investigate application issues by using telemetry and Application Insights information
• Has experience with REST APIs, Microservices and API management on Apigee
• Follows best coding practices using SOLID principles, design patterns and other industry standards
• Proactive self-starter who can manage their own workload and can juggle multiple priorities at the same time, often when working under pressure
• Experience working in an Agile environment and good understanding of integrating testing within the SDLC
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both written and orally, within Cash and Currency Platform and with Cash and Currency stakeholders
• Able to diagnose the root cause of complex coding problems, define a solution and have the drive to follow it through to a production release
• Excellent attention to detail, able to prioritise and work efficiently to meet challenging project deadlines

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (DESIRABLE):

• Relevant experience of developing complex UIs using C#, Angular and the .NET Core framework within a Front Office environment
• Exposure to financial markets & asset management procedures and processes, with a solid understanding of the trade lifecycle across multiple asset classes; notably FX, money markets and Securities Lending
• Exposure to data visualisation tools - Power BI or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

• 14+ years of total experience in software engineering
• 4+ years of experience in a core engineering role in the Cloud

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:

• Graduate in any discipline
