Supervision and Development Consultant
The Supervision and Development Consultant is responsible for leading the day-to-day management, development and performance of a spans of control (SPOC) within the M&G Advice Partner population. The role focuses on supporting commercial performance, adviser activity, and business growth by providing proactive coaching, structured development, and performance management support. The consultant will partner with advisers and firms to enhance productivity, quality of advice and client outcomes, while ensuring key risks are identified and effectively managed through established governance frameworks. The role also ensures appropriate T&C standards are maintained, but with a primary emphasis on enabling advisers to improve capability, achieve business goals, and consistently deliver high quality client experiences.
Key Accountabilities for the role:
- Embed a consistent framework of coaching, development and activity management, delivering regular forwardlooking coaching sessions, skills development, business planning support and activity reviews. Ensure advisers have the capability, tools and behaviours required to meet both growth ambitions and high quality client outcomes, proactively identifying development needs and supporting long-term capability building
- Supervise a Spans of Control (SPOC) of advisers within the M&G Advice Partner population carrying out appropriate interventions when issues are escalate or identified through key controls in the business
- Manage and support their SPOC through the evolving regulatory landscape and key change initiatives undertaken within M&G
- Support sales performance across the SPOC, using data led insights to review adviser activity, pipeline management, conversion rates and business mix. Provide targeted interventions and development plans to enhance productivity, improve commercial outcomes, and support advisers in achieving business and personal revenue ambitions
- Adhere to the Training and Competency Scheme set by the Risk and Controls area
- Ensure key requirements of the business are met by manging and monitoring Key Performance Indicators
- Intervene and manage Advisers and businesses who are monitored through key governance forums within the M&G such as Issues Under Management and Adviser Risk Forum
- Support and oversee first and second line functions to deliver on both M&Gs objectives whilst also remaining aligned to M&Gs core behaviours
- Follow up on wider teams root cause analysis where issues are escalated
- Work across the wider Supervision and Development Consultants, first and second line risk teams to develop solutions to support all advisers within M&G Advice Partners
- Evaluate and monitor performance of ARs, helping them perform to their best and ensuring wider business objectives are achieved
- Support the transition of Academy Advisers when the graduate the programme and transition through their journey within M&G Advice Partners
- Support the delivery of an ongoing contact and engagement strategy across M&G Advice Partners attending regional events
- Oversee the upkeep and actioning of the T&C system including Meetings, Disciplinary, Complaints, Permissions, Business AR Structure -activities, Notifiable Events
- Provide guidance and answer queries for advisers within your SPOC, escalating to appropriate support functions to create an inclusive environment and an evolving infrastructure for Advisers and businesses
- Take all reasonable steps to ensure the timely and appropriate resolution of control weaknesses, issues and operational failures arising within the business
- Use judgement to strengthen our positive risk and control culture, by identifying, assessing and managing risk within your SPOC and business area
- Contribute to the Issues Under Management Forum and where relevant undertake the resolution of contractual or disciplinary issues in respect of Advisers
Key Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience of a regulatory supervision role for self-employed advisers or a strong track record as an adviser with an ambition to move into a developmental, coaching or supervisory opportunity
- Experience of coaching and developing self-employed advisers and their businesses
- Proven ability to support adviser performance through data led activity management, coaching and development, with a strong track record of improving commercial outcomes and adviser capability
- Strong knowledge of the financial advice market, including products and services
- Previous exposure to conflict and delivering difficult or unpopular messages
Key Qualifications
- Essential - L4 Diploma for Financial Advisers
- Desirable - Supervisory qualification
