Private Credit & Equity (PC&E) consists of a team of 300+ professionals globally managing ~$55 billion of client capital in direct private equity and credit investment across a broad spectrum of industries.

The Next Level Fund is a venture capital fund seeking to generate long‐term capital appreciation generally through privately negotiated venture capital investments in primarily early‐stage companies where there has been historical underinvestment of early‐stage capital. The Fund invests in early‐stage technology and technology‐enabled companies in the technology, consumer/retail, financial technology, healthcare and media/entertainment industries primarily located in the United States, and Canada, with annual recurring revenue of at least $1MM and a valuation of at least $10MM.

The Analyst/Associate will be an integral member of the Investment Team for the Next Level Fund working with senior staff members in making and managing a portfolio of investments. Responsibilities include:

Responsibilities

  • Work with senior members of the Fund to conduct diligence on investment opportunities including investment selection, evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, closing, ongoing corporate governance, and potential exit of the portfolio companies
  • Construct company financial forecasts and prepare detailed valuation analyses and presentations to the Investment Committee and monitor strategic developments relevant to the portfolio companies
  • Manage industry/sector company analysis
  • Execute other investment related tasks (tracking prospective deals, negotiating confidentiality agreements, etc.)
  • Contribute to managing the day‐to‐day activities and interaction with portfolio companies, including:
    • Building and maintaining relationships with founders, supporting various management, strategy and funding matters, as necessary and relevant
    • Collaboration with other MS constituents and relevant groups from a mentor/assistance/introduction and potential vendor analysis perspective
    • Establish and monitor KPIs, overseeing valuation analysis, company forecasting
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant entrepreneurial ecosystem members including Venture Capital firms, Angel Groups, Accelerators and Corporate Partners
  • Assist with investor reporting
  • Engage and provide support as necessary to the other initiatives on the team

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have significant knowledge of both financial products and financial analysis including different valuation methodologies and should be capable of both leading and managing large, multidimensional projects. Required skills include:

  • Exceptional analytical skills with a fundamental understanding of corporate finance and investment principles as well as financial products/securities
    • Strong financial modeling skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a significant workload and work well under pressure, in addition to a demonstrated ability to deliver to a range of audiences (both internal and external) with a range of differing priorities
  • Exceptional writing, communication (both internal and external) and presentation delivery skills
  • Extensive experience managing projects with minimal supervision, in addition to sound judgment and the ability to operate independently
  • Proactive self‐starter and creative problem solver with a demonstrated interest and passion in the multicultural business sector, as well as in the investing and impact sectors
  • Committed to delivering the highest quality work product; strong attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Entrepreneurial spirit
  • An understanding and passion for analyzing a business from an investor’s perspective
  • 1‐3 years of relevant experience in investment banking, corporate finance, equity research, strategic/corporate investments or venture capital; prior investing experience preferred

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 and $225,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs
