We are looking for an experience Tax Director to assist with the management of our multi-faceted tax department. The ideal candidate would serve as key contributor in executing operating aspects of the tax function as well as assisting senior management with structuring design implementation efforts. NB is a MNE asset management firm located in NYC and the NB Tax Department reports to the Chief Financial Officer. The team handles the Firm’s tax matters and seeks to optimize the tax effectiveness. The tax function encompasses tax structuring, tax compliance, tax planning, tax accounting, tax reporting, payroll and ad-hoc tax matters.
Responsibilities:
Collaborate with legal and compliance, finance, and portfolio managers to develop tax efficient strategies to optimize investments
Advise on new products, funds and investment mandates to ensure proper structuring for a diverse investor base (U.S. taxable, tax exempt, super-tax exempt and non-U.S. investors), as well as carry and co-invest structures
Support product development in the tax assessment for new initiatives to ensure tax costs, risks and opportunities are well understood
Provide tax risk assessment for initiatives presented to investment committees
Establish, advise on, and monitor policies/guidelines to control tax risks and ensure compliance
Review tax aspects for a variety of transaction agreements and side letter negotiations
Assist with FATCA-CRS reporting and related engagements with service providers
Collaborate on complex cross border investments involving multiple jurisdictions and help identify tax reporting requirements
Partner with outside counsels and advisors on transactions
Research and analyze complex tax matters, and provide recommendations to address specific tax needs
Monitor and evaluate the impact of new tax developments and industry trends to ensure compliance and competitiveness of the firm’s tax strategies;
Assist with responding to investors questions, RFPs, and liaising with investor services on tax inquiries
Provide tax audit support; and build and maintain relationships with tax departments of peer organizations and industry groups
Qualifications:
Self-motivated team player with strong organizational skills and work ethic who can work independently with other functions in the firm as well as external advisors
Three-five years law firm experience , in-house experience with an established fund manager, or Big 4 accounting firm experience
Knowledge of private fund structures, fund tax accounting concepts, including partnership tax accounting, tax allocations, management and incentive fees
Experience with financial services taxation, including PFICs, CFC, UBTI, ECI, tax modeling experience a plus
Technical knowledge of U.S. tax rules and in particular partnership and financial instruments taxation and reporting
Master of Taxation/LLM preferred, tax accounting background a plus.
Proficiency in tax research tools and Microsoft Office Suite
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with people from multi-functional and diverse backgrounds
Ability to effectively analyze, organize, and prioritize workflow according to internal and external deadlines in a fast-paced
Compensation Details
The salary range for this role is $180,000-$220,000. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. This range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in the job posting location. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, business sector, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, market benchmarking data, any collective bargaining agreements, and business or organizational needs. This job is also eligible for a discretionary bonus, which, along with base salary and retirement contributions, is part of our total comprehensive package.
