SENIOR PORTFOLIO ADVISOR II – OUTSOURCED CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER (OCIO)

Northern Trust’s Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) group is seeking an experienced institutional portfolio manager to serve as the lead advisor on discretionary OCIO mandates for sophisticated institutional clients, including foundations, endowments, healthcare organizations, and associations. This role is designed for a senior investment professional with deep institutional experience, strong investment judgment, and the ability to lead committees through complex investment decisions. Typical client portfolios range from approximately $25 million to $500 million.

Role Overview

The Senior Portfolio Advisor II is responsible for asset allocation, manager selection, and ongoing portfolio oversight for institutional clients with complex objectives. The role combines hands-on investment leadership with high-level client engagement, including frequent interaction with investment committees and boards. The successful candidate will also play an active role in new business development, including RFPs and finalist presentations.

Primary Responsibilities

Institutional Portfolio Management & Asset Allocation

· Serve as lead portfolio manager for discretionary institutional OCIO relationships, with responsibility for strategic and tactical asset allocation decisions.

· Design and implement customized investment strategies aligned with client objectives, spending policies, risk tolerance, and governance constraints.

· Monitor portfolios on an ongoing basis and adjust based on internal guidence on market conditions, valuation, and client circumstances.

Manager Selection & Due Diligence

· Select, evaluate, and recommend external investment managers across asset classes, in partnership with Northern Trust’s research and due diligence teams.

· Present manager changes clearly and persuasively to investment committees.

· Oversee implementation of manager transitions and allocation changes.

Investment Committee & Board Leadership

· Present portfolio results, asset allocation decisions, and investment topics to investment committees, boards, CFOs, and senior executives.

· Facilitate constructive dialogue and help committees build consensus around complex investment decisions.

· Educate clients on capital markets, portfolio construction, risk management, and emerging investment topics.

Client Relationship & Service Leadership

· Act as the primary investment advisor and trusted partner to clients.

· Coordinate cross-functional internal teams to ensure high-quality execution, timely issue resolution, and consistent client experience.

· Proactively identify opportunities to add value through portfolio enhancements, governance guidance, and strategic insights.

Business Development & Practice Growth

· Contribute meaningfully to new business efforts, including RFP responses, finalist presentations, and prospect meetings.

· Articulate Northern Trust’s OCIO investment philosophy and capabilities to prospective institutional clients.

· Support the ongoing growth and evolution of the OCIO practice.

Required Qualifications

Experience

· Minimum of 10 years of institutional investment experience, including direct responsibility for portfolio management, asset allocation, and client advisory work.

· Experience working with sophisticated institutional clients such as endowments, foundations, healthcare organizations, pension plans, or similar entities.

Education & Professional Credentials

· Advanced degree or professional certification required.

· CFA preferred

Technical & Professional Skills

· Deep understanding of institutional investment theory, portfolio construction, and multi-asset investing.

· Demonstrated expertise in asset allocation, manager selection, and performance evaluation.

· Strong presentation skills with the ability to explain complex investment concepts clearly to non-investment audiences.

Client & Business Acumen

· Proven ability to lead investment committees and guide group decision-making toward consensus.

· High level of professionalism, judgment, and credibility with senior institutional stakeholders.

· Demonstrated success supporting or winning new institutional business.
