Role/ Department:
As part of the Custody Tax Operations team, the Associate Consultant is at the centre of the International withholding tax processing. Reporting to the Manager/Team leader, responsibilities will be to ensure that team request, record and manage Northern Trust’s client tax documentation, and accurately identify, process and track tax reclaims and managing exceptions on same on behalf of Northern Trusts global client base so as to ensure maximum tax benefits. The role will require responding quickly and professionally to inquiries in an accurate and timely manner and a focus to continually improve the service offered to clients.
The key responsibilities of the role include:
Take on assigned tasks from the Team Manager / Team Leader but also has ability to work independently on tasks most of the time.
Responsible for execution of complex tax processes, where expertise is required to interpret policies, guidelines, exceptions and/or processes as part of own work, or in support of other Partners.
Ownership for one or more processes, reports and/or procedures.
Reviews work of others for example tax breakdowns, tax reclaims, cash exceptions.
Provide training and control reporting as needed.
Handle complex queries and refer complicated issues to higher level specialist and or regional tax team as needed.
Perform market analysis as required.
Continuous focus on operational risk and control environment including ensuring procedures are followed and updated regularly, assisting and guiding other Partners as required. Where issues arise direct investigation and analysis of event highlighting any remediation required.
May be required to attends internal and external meetings with both internal and external Counterparties where required, taking a lead on behalf of team.
Work closely with the relevant contacts within the scope of the process and for clients to provide the best possible service, responding to queries and escalating as appropriate.
Be aware of all service level agreements in place.
Continuously meet and exceed the expectations and requirements of all clients.
Review of processes and procedures to ensure tasks are completed efficiently to a high standard.
Skills/ Qualifications:
Analytically and procedurally competent, primarily on daily execution.
Technically sound in own area of expertise and has good operational knowledge of other areas within the tax practice.
Challenges assumptions in order to drive continual improvement.
Thinks creatively and develops new ideas or ways of doing things without increasing costs or risk Takes initiative to accomplish tasks and make decisions according to risk, priorities and deadlines.
Bright, articulate and entrepreneurial with a demonstrated ability to navigate through obstacles, work under pressure and successfully deliver to tight deadlines in a fast moving business environment.
A self starter that can pick up tasks with minimal supervision and has the confidence to review and provide potential solutions prior to reaching out to Management.
Ability to work both individually and within a team environment.
Demonstrated client servicing capabilities and excellent communication skills.
Must be resilient to pressure and the ability to adapt quickly.
Accuracy and attention to details always.
Numerically competent with strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Good core IT skills – Adobe, Excel, MS Office, Word etc.
