Role/ Department:

Based in Bangalore, the Head of India Investment Operations will lead the day-to-day management and supporting the wider global Operations function with growth, development and change needs.

The role reports to both the Global Head of Investment Operations and the NTAM India COO and works in concert with global teams and specialists to support the ongoing Operational needs of the business. The individual must function as a senior stakeholder representing Operations at governance and decision-making groups.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Managing a team focused on achieving operational excellence in asset management operations functions of a fast-growing division of a globally operating Bank. Function undertakes a broad range of operational activities including but not limited to Client Account Management, Client Trade, Fee Billing, Front Office Support, Cash and Liquidity Support, Data Management, Pricing and Valuations, Reconciliations and Corporate Actions.
  • Overseeing and driving the strategic direction of certain Global Investment Operations practices, transformation and projects, setting the vision and strategy, driving the direction for the systems environment, talent management, and technology project oversight, in close coordination with the Global Head of Investment Operations.
  • Continued process improvement, making the necessary enhancements to improve efficiency and scaling for growth across our Global operations.
  • Build strong and effective relationships with stakeholders in EMEA, North America and APAC to identify solutions to meet client needs or appropriate actions to address client issues.
  • Partners with global functional practice leads to define and implement the strategic direction of the team.
  • Ensure that the team are engaged, motivated and developed to produce high quality outcomes that exceed client expectations.
  • Provides technical support as needed to investment, product and distribution teams to understand their non-investment needs and deliver effective support and anticipate future needs.
  • Oversee implementation, on-going monitoring and governance of global Risk Control Self-Assessment (RCSA), Operational Resiliency Framework and third-party oversight of vendors needed to support regional investment process and operations.
  • Ensure key operational risks are understood and appropriate plans are put in place to mitigate and/or escalate to correct forums/committees.
  • Ensure local business unit resiliency plans are in place and tested accordingly.
  • Leads performance management and career discussions for the team, establishing clear performance expectations, identifying development priorities, and driving a culture of continuous growth and accountability.
  • Fosters a high-performing, inclusive, and engaged work environment that promotes ownership, collaboration, innovation, and effective communication.

Skills/ Experience Required:

  • Solid track record in Investment Operations/Asset Management Operations with broad experience gained from within ideally a Global Asset Manager or Outsourcing provider.
  • Demonstrable experience to effectively work as a player coach with high personal accountability and ownership for team goals in addition to own objectives.
  • Change Ambassador to drive and lead the local implementation of transformational change with a fast-growing business unit in a global operating environment.
  • Highly flexible operations professional, willing to take to adapt and take on potentially new and growing responsible to support the growth and development of the business.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills required to operate effectively within a fast paced, hybrid and highly pressurised global environment often working short deadlines.
  • Proven ability as a proactive hands-on leader and people manager to effectively drive and execute to high standards across a diverse and increasingly complex book of business.
  • Build authentic and strong team relationships. Holding oneself and team accountable.
  • Strong track record on the ability to roll up the sleeves to assess risk, identify, communicate solutions, and drive change.
  • Highly organised, detail oriented and results focused individual with a strong track record in managing teams and self to deliver on multiple initiatives both locally and globally.

Technical & Communication Skills

  • In-depth technical knowledge of multiple asset classes, including but not limited to, equities, fixed income, real estate and private equity as well as the investment strategies that employ these asset classes.
  • Analytical thinking, enabling teams to embrace new ideas and develop a growth mindset.
  • Continuous learners proactively ensure skills are kept current with local market and industry trends in line with business growth.
  • Extensive knowledge of Investment and Accounting Books of Records (ideally Alladin, BONY Eagle systems).
  • Solid understanding of regulatory, compliance and legal environment with the Asset Management industry.
  • Demonstrates excellent team working skills having worked in highly matrixed Global organisations with the proven ability to develop, grow and maintain relationships with a diverse range of internal stakeholders.
  • Outstanding communication and influencing skills, both written and verbal, with demonstrated ability to develop materials and effectively present to key Senior stakeholders.
  • Good listening skills to ensure instructions are understood in a fast-paced busy global team environment.
  • Excellent motivation and team building skills, including the ability to recruit, develop and retain talent, staff and build and oversee a robust succession plan.
  • Active engagement in industry forums/user groups to ensure teams continue to have the appropriate skill, awareness and expertise to appropriately perform their activities and keep at pace with Client’s needs.

Experience & Education

  • For internal applications - 5 years as Operations Manager
  • Relevant experience in senior roles for large, global financial services corporations; asset management is strongly preferred. 15+ years in managing/supervising operational and business teams.
  • Strong commercial sense with demonstrated ability to take industry trends, innovative behaviors, data analytics, and automation to drive growth, scale and risk management.
  • Track record of developing and driving transformation vision and agenda and managing change
  • Well-developed project management skills, organized and disciplined with attention to detail and ability to execute.
  • University degree in any discipline (Finance/Investments preferred) with a post graduate management degree/CFA from a premier institute.
  • Strong background in Automation and/or Data Management and Analytics is preferred.
