The State Street Global Advisors (SSGA) - Global Head of Data, Analytics & AI Services (GHDAAIS) is seeking to hire a Principal Data Engineer, Assistant Vice President at Hangzhou office. This role will play an important role in leading the solution delivery of Data technology services provided to the Global Advisors business at State Street. The role will be a key player in the DAAIS organization for data services supporting the COO’s organizational delivery of the data platforms in a federated model to Global Advisors, State Street, and our clients. The role will function as the data engineering specialist and solution lead for data related services working closely with the State Street affiliates, Global Technology Services (GTS) and other third-party vendors used within the SSGA ecosystem globally. The role and the team will provide data architectural solution to the COO’s delivery of technology platforms and services according to the GTS architectural standards and operate under a federated operating model to deliver against a target end state data ecosystem blueprint. In addition, the role needs to adopt GTS data related technology, risk, security, and data governance standards.

This is a principal data engineer role for candidate who has very strong hands-on data engineering solution design and development experience, as well as strong team collaboration skills and leadership. The candidate should have rich experience for data platform development. The candidate has 5+ years of experience in asset management. This is someone who also has demonstrable leadership in developing service-oriented data solution, has delivered enterprise data platform and/or commercialized data product. The candidate has excellent technical and problem-solving skills, someone with creativity and self-motivation to deliver on mission critical projects with tight timelines and competing priorities.


Responsibilities:

  • Lead a small agile team to deliver highly effective data solution to meet our fast-changing business and client needs, collaborate with global teams to execute on global projects and keep improving data solution and data engineering best practices.
  • Adopt various modern AI tools to design and develop data solution and disrupt traditional development approach and improve productivity.
  • Develop, train, and mentor junior data engineers, ensure their continuous growth and development, and foster a high-performance team culture.
  • Become subject matter expert in modern data OLTP and OLAP tools, data storage/loading/transformation/sharing technologies, data security, and data governance best practices, as well as unstructured data management technologies.
  • Design and develop highly effective enterprise level data solution for managing core structured and unstructured data to ensure rationalization and scalability; ensure data solutions are easy to use by each business functional group and ready for AI consumption.
  • Become pioneer in designing and developing data agents under agentic AI ecosystem.
  • Responsible for overall data solution design, development, release, testing, production support, and related CI/CD scripts.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree required (preferably in computer science, electrical engineering, or related).
  • 3+ years of experience with Snowflake or Databricks as well as Postgres SQL and prior experience with high performing and scalable cloud native data solution.
  • 3+ years of design and development experience with unstructured data like documents, audio, image, video etc. and familiar with Vectorized DB such as Snowflake Vector, Databricks Vetor, and PGVector.
  • 7+ years of experience in traditional data engineering from data ingestion, enrichment, gold copy, distribution, archiving, performance optimization, and familiar with modern tools at each stage.
  • 7+ years of enterprise level experience in data extraction, loading, and transformation pipelines and familiar with tools like DBT, Talend etc.
  • 7+ years of experience in structure data analysis, normalization, rationalization, indexing, partitioning, archiving, performance tuning, entitlement, and storage management for batch and streaming data in entity-relational database, column-based database, cloud native data warehouse, and/or transactional database environment.
  • 7+ years of modern, object-oriented or functional programming and design experience (Python, Java, SQL), proficient in Liquibase and AI code generation tools like GitHub Co-pilot/Cursor.
  • Familiar with major financial instrument, reference data, market data, investment and risk management concept.
  • Fluent with English and Mandarin; Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all stakeholder levels across multiple countries.
  • Result driven, detail oriented, candid attitude.

Any of the following is highly desirable:

  • Prior data engineering role in financial institution experience.
  • Structured and unstructured data management tools (Snowflake, Databricks, PostgreSQL, Document Management tools, etc.).
  • Passed Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) level II or equivalent.
