Who We Are Looking For
State Street Investment Management (“State Street IM”, formerly State Street Global Advisors or SSGA) is seeking a Head of Business Architecture and Product, Platform, and Services (PPS) Operating Model Transformation. This dual-role position will lead both the development and institutionalization of the business architecture function and the implementation of a PPS operating model across the COO organization.

The successful candidate will lead the definition, rollout, and adoption of modern product-centric frameworks, tools, standards, and governance mechanisms to support a scalable, agile operating model that aligns business, technology, and operations. This role is also critical to ensuring that technology architecture evolves in step with business strategy and plays a central role in the firm’s transformation toward a PPS model.

The role reports directly to the Global Head of Technology and Business Architecture Services within the COO organization and has a dual reporting line to the Global Head of Business Operations, who oversees PPS Operating Model Transformation in addition to Market Data, Risk, Vendor, and Business Management. Initially, the Head of Business Architecture and Operating Model Transformation will work closely with the Head of Business Operations and the broader COO leadership team to drive the organizational shift toward a PPS model—laying the foundation for an end-to-end business platform and architecture supporting the firm’s Investment and Asset Management business.

Key Responsibilities

Business Architecture Leadership

  • Establish and scale a business architecture function that supports enterprise-wide transformation, aligning business strategy, operating models, and technology investments.
  • Design and maintain business capability models, value streams, and operating models that reflect strategic priorities and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide architectural oversight and thought leadership for major transformation initiatives, ensuring alignment with the PPS (Product, Platform, and Service) operating model.

PPS Operating Model Implementation

  • Lead the end-to-end transformation toward a PPS operating model, aligning with firmwide strategic objectives and embedding business architecture principles and frameworks across the COO organization.
  • Define and implement PPS operating standards, including decision rights, funding models, escalation protocols, and cross-functional team structures.
  • Develop and roll out frameworks for product lifecycle management, prioritization, and delivery across business and technology functions.

Tools, Metrics, and Enablement

  • Identify and implement tools to support product planning, backlog management, KPIs, and collaboration (e.g., Jira, Aha!, ServiceNow).
  • Define and operationalize a metrics framework to measure product health, business value, velocity, and customer satisfaction.\
  • Build and roll-out dashboards, scorecards, and review cadences to enable data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.

Capability Building and Change Management

  • Develop templates, playbooks, and training programs to support product managers, operations leads, and technology partners.
  • Lead change management efforts to foster stakeholder buy-in and cultural alignment with a PPS Operating Model mindset.
  • Mentor a team of business architects and collaborate with solution architects, product managers, and delivery teams to ensure business outcomes are realized.

Cross-Functional Engagement

  • Partner with business, technology, compliance, legal, and risk leaders to ensure frameworks meet strategic, operational, and regulatory needs.
  • Represent the COO organization in firmwide initiatives related to agility, digital transformation, and customer experience.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in business architecture, enterprise architecture, or strategic transformation—preferably within investment management or financial services.
  • Demonstrated success in designing and executing operating models, particularly in product-centric or transformation contexts.
  • Proven ability to build and scale business architecture functions in complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Deep knowledge of business capability modeling, value stream mapping, operating model design, and enterprise transformation.
  • Strong understanding of COO functions, including operations, technology, and governance.
  • Familiarity with architecture and delivery frameworks such as TOGAF, BIZBOK, Agile, Lean, and SAFe.
  • Extensive experience leading large-scale transformation initiatives, including PPS or similar models.
  • Skilled in program and change management, with the ability to drive measurable outcomes across global, cross-functional teams.
  • A strong analytical mindset with the ability to define and interpret KPIs, OKRs, and other performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making.
  • Proficient in product and portfolio management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Aha!, ServiceNow).
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders across business and technology. Comfortable presenting to C-level audiences and navigating organizational complexity.
