Platform Engineering - Middleware Messaging - SRE Engineer

Who we are looking for

As part of Platform Engineering Middleware Messaging Operations, you will be working in a fast-paced environment primarily supporting the products MQSeries and Kafka. The primary responsibility is to ensure platform availability while also servicing internal and external messaging community.

What you will be responsible for

As a Messaging SRE Engineer you will:

  • Have a support ready understanding of IBM MQSeries, Kafka Messaging, or another Messaging technology
  • Provide troubleshooting and best practices methodology for customer and internal teams
  • Create and deploy monitoring tools, alerts and have good knowledge of best practices
  • Planning and execution of infrastructure projects as well as on-boarding of new application development projects
  • Design monitoring solutions and baseline statistics reporting to support the implementation
  • Perform optimization and tuning of MQSeries and Kafka
  • Strive to provide highly resilient Messaging systems using the latest high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) technology solutions
  • Ability to work with application and development teams to understand usage pattern and provide solutions
  • Provide input into technical infrastructure design for achieving high scalability of integration solutions

  • Understanding of ITIL framework
  • Usage of ServiceNow tool
  • Usage of Avada IR360
  • Usage of Dynatrace
  • Experience with installing/backing out versions and fixpacks.
  • Experience with installing RDQM (replicated data queue managers)
  • Experience with source code control system
  • Experience with finding root cause for problems with applications using MQSeries, Kafka Messaging or another Messaging technology or with any software applications
  • Experience with tuning software systems
  • Experience with supporting software/applications
  • Any scripting/programming language is fine but with willingness to learn Python, Ansible, Puppet, Shell.
  • Experience with Message products usage on a Public Cloud (Azure, AWS, Google, other)

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • History of supporting a Messaging infrastructure, preferably MQSeries and Kafka or another Messaging technology
  • Computer science degree preferred
  • Experience with high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions for middleware or other platforms

Additional requirements

  • Teamwork
  • This is a “hands on keyboard” support position
  • Weekend work will be required
  • Our Operations team will need to create new docs and SOPs for use by our support team and perform cross training of the support team members
