Why this role is important to us

State Street Investment Management (“State Street IM”, formerly State Street Global Advisors or SSGA) is seeking a seasoned senior leader to oversee our investment research and risk technology strategy. This role reports to the State Street IM Global Head of Investments Technology and Business Services and is part of the GA Chief Operating Officer (COO) organization. This position will be based out of Boston or Stamford.

Why this role is important to us

The team you will be joining is a part of State Street Investment Management, one of the largest asset managers in the world. We partner with many of the world’s largest, most sophisticated investors and financial intermediaries to help them reach their goals through a rigorous, research-driven investment process. With over four decades of experience and trillions of dollars in assets under management, we offer one of the broadest selections of services across asset classes, risk profiles, regions and styles. As pioneers in index, ETF, and ESG investing, we are always inventing new ways to invest.

What you will be responsible for

As the Global Head of Investment Research and Risk Technology, you will be responsible for defining and executing the strategic vision for the tools and platforms—both proprietary and third-party—that support the investment models, research, performance and risk analytics. You will act as a key strategic partner to investment research teams, risk oversight, and portfolio managers, while also serving as a critical liaison to enterprise architecture, data teams, and external vendors across the firm. This role requires a deep understanding of investment research workflows, risk analytics, and emerging technologies including AI/ML, digital, advanced analytics, and cloud-native capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Define and lead the global technology strategy for investment research and risk platforms, aligning with State Street IM’s investment philosophy and evolving product mix.
  • Collaborate with Investments, Portfolio Management, Research, and COO leadership to align the technology roadmap with business goals and research efficiency priorities.
  • Serve as the accountable executive for the delivery, resilience, and scalability of research and risk tooling.

Technology Enablement

  • Oversee technology for performance and risk analytics in support of the global investment teams.
  • Deliver capabilities spanning model development, validation, performance attribution, and enterprise risk analytics across all public and private asset classes.
  • Champion cloud adoption, modular architecture, and integration with strategic platforms such as MSCI, Tamale, and FactSet.

Execution & Oversight

  • Lead the investment research and risk technology team, fostering a high-performance culture with a focus on innovation, ownership, and delivery excellence.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including research and risk analytics providers, ensuring robust integration, service levels, and contractual oversight.
  • Oversee the technology lifecycle—from concept to adoption—across the platform’s global user base and various investment vehicles.

Change Management & Transformation

  • Partner with the COO transformation office to embed research and risk initiatives within broader investment and technology modernization programs.
  • Establish KPIs and performance metrics for platform usage, model accuracy, operational risk, and business value creation.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience leading investment research and risk technology platforms in institutional asset management environments.
  • Deep familiarity with investment model lifecycle, research workflows, and enterprise risk analytics.
  • Proven record of managing global teams across product, technology, and data domains.
  • Strong knowledge of vendor landscape (e.g., FactSet, Bloomberg, MSCI Barra, Tamale, Databricks).
  • Advanced understanding of data science, AI/ML, and cloud architecture.
  • Exceptional leadership, relationship-building, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into scalable, user-centric technology solutions.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, or related field required.
  • Advanced degree (MBA, MS Financial Engineering, CFA, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with multi-asset class investment management, including public and private markets.
  • Global, multi-jurisdictional experience in a regulated financial environment preferred.
