We are currently hiring for a leadership role within the Client Coverage Group (CCG) at State Street Investment Management (SSIM). In this role as Managing Director, Head of Defined Contribution (DC) Intermediary, you will be responsible for developing and leading the overall distribution strategy across retirement-focused intermediaries in the U.S. Reporting to the Head of U.S. Wealth, you will work to craft, refine, and execute the firm’s strategy to effectively distribute and win placement of our DC investment solutions. This position will play a critical role in aligning resources, optimizing coverage, and ensuring that SSIM is positioned to meet the evolving needs of DC advisors, consultants, and platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and execute the DC intermediary go-to-market strategy, ensuring alignment with the broader U.S. Wealth and Client Coverage Group strategic priorities and financial goals.
  • Manage, lead, and develop a high-performing team consisting of Regional Consultants and National Account Managers, while orchestrating a team-selling approach to drive business results.
  • Build and deepen strategic relationships with key decision-makers across DC aggregators, recordkeepers, and advisor/consultant firms, including senior and executive leadership at major organizations.
  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight of channel sales plans and targets, ensuring assumptions and resource needs are thoroughly validated before execution.
  • Oversee the development of territory/regional and account-level plans by team members, ensuring alignment with overall channel strategy and performance goals.
  • Deliver against annual sales, revenue and market share targets, ensuring the team is consistently driving pipeline and closing opportunities.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, including strategic partnerships with key DC recordkeepers and aggregators.
  • Oversee partnerships with platform gatekeepers and due diligence teams to secure product approvals, maintain shelf space, and achieve placement on recommended lists.
  • Work closely with internal partners including Marketing, Product, Infrastructure, Client Experience, and other functional teams to ensure seamless coverage and execution.
  • Represent the firm with key clients, partners, and at industry events as a senior leader in the retirement business.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity and regulatory developments to inform strategy and positioning.
  • Ensure risk excellence by enforcing sales supervision, controls, and conduct standards across the team and addressing issues promptly.

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of experience in investment management, with at least 5 years in sales leadership preferred; experience in the retirement investment products space preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or relevant designation (e.g., CFA) is a plus.
  • FINRA Series 24, 7 and 63 licenses required.
  • Strategic, forward-looking mindset with the ability to identify market trends and shape client and advisor engagement strategies.
  • Proven track record of navigating complex organizations and aligning internal and external stakeholders to deliver on strategic initiatives.
  • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills with external and internal partners.
  • Demonstrated enterprise selling capability, aligning client priorities with the firm’s value proposition.
  • Data-driven approach to optimizing distribution strategy and client experience.
  • Ability to attract, motivate, and develop high-performing teams; strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
  • High integrity, energy, and a results-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to travel extensively (up to 50%) as needed.

Salary Range:

$170,000 - $267,500 Annual

The range quoted above applies to the role in the primary location specified. If the candidate would ultimately work outside of the primary location above, the applicable range could differ.
