Who We Are Looking For

State Street’s Global Delivery Artificial Intelligence (GDAI) team is a globally recognized, award-winning group focused on advancing AI capabilities across the enterprise. Our mission is to explore, enable, and apply cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, image recognition, large language models (LLMs), and AI agents, etc., to solve complex business challenges and support teams across Global Services, Global Advisors, etc. The team brings together expertise in data science, financial analysis & engineering and software development. We have successfully delivered solutions that are enhancing the client experience and operational efficiency, such as market movement, sentiment analysis, valuation, investment strategy, etc. We are also continuously expanding into additional financial domains and providing various AI services to meet the business needs in production.

We are seeking a motivated and results-oriented data scientist intern to support the development of our AI products. The ideal candidate will contribute to build scalable solutions for data processing, data feature design and implementation, AI/ML model design and implementation, AI/ML result reasoning and interpretability, LLM and AI agents, etc., while collaborating closely with data scientists, software engineers, business analysts and stakeholders. The role is ideal for early-career professionals looking for hands-on experience in AI, big-data processing and product development.

What You Will Do

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, data scientists and software developers to understand business requirements and provide data science solutions
  • Apply a solid understanding of established ML algorithms, e.g., tree-based methods, neural networks, etc., and develop or enhance machine learning models with structured or unstructured data
  • Contribute to LLM-related tasks and agent-based prototypes and deliverables
  • Support code integration and testing; Participate in demos, feedback sessions and iterative development cycles
  • Use AI tools or agents, e.g., github copilot to improve the development efficiency and solve novel tasks

Education and Preferred Qualifications

Candidates should be:

  • Effective communicators with the ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment
  • Open to feedback and committed to continuous learning and improvement
  • Motivated by real-world problem solving and eager to contribute innovative ideas

Nice-to-Have Certifications

  • AWS/Azure Certified Data Scientist or Developer
  • Machine Learning or AI specialization (e.g., Coursera, etc.)

Core Competencies

Candidates should exhibit working knowledge of:

  • Machine Learning and Data Analytics
  • Python coding and relevant libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, transformers, etc.)
  • Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Data Engineering (e.g., SQL coding, Hadoop/Spark, etc.)
  • General LLM and AI agent knowledge
  • Communication and Collaboration in both English and Chinese
