Platform & Automation Lead Engineer, AVP
State Street
We are seeking a hands-on technical lead to support the SaaS Upgrade team by managing and continuously improving the internal E2E test environment used to validate releases, upgrades, and new platform components. This role will work closely with Engineering, Product, DevOps, and Release Management teams to ensure the environment remains aligned with the latest platform releases. The environment provides early visibility into new services, platform components, and architectural changes before they are rolled out to client environments. The role is well suited to someone with a strong platform or support engineering background, with experience troubleshooting complex application environments and working closely with engineering teams to investigate issues introduced through new releases. As the platform continues to evolve from a legacy monolithic architecture to a more modular design, the team will play an important role in validating new components, documenting upgrade processes, and helping the SaaS upgrade team prepare for future client upgrades. A key part of the role will also be identifying opportunities to improve automation across the SaaS upgrade process, including working with DevOps teams and exploring how AI tools can help streamline environment upgrades and operational workflows.
Responsibilities
Own and maintain the internal E2E QA platform environment used for performing QA on the upgrade process of all applications on the alpha platform.
Work closely with Engineering, DevOps, Product, and Release Management teams to ensure the environment remains aligned with the latest platform releases.
Upgrade applications, services, and platform components as new releases are delivered.
Investigate and troubleshoot issues introduced by new releases, working with engineering teams to resolve them.
Support the transition from the legacy monolithic platform to the Next Gen architecture, validating new services and interfaces as they are introduced.
Document upgrade procedures, configuration changes, and migration steps required for future client upgrades.
Work with DevOps teams to identify opportunities to automate environment upgrades and configuration processes.
Explore the use of AI tools to improve automation, troubleshooting, and operational efficiency.
Share documentation and lessons learned with the broader SaaS upgrade team to support upgrade readiness.
Requirements
10–12 years of experience in platform support, support engineering, or enterprise application support roles.
Strong experience troubleshooting complex enterprise platforms and multi-service application environments.
Experience working closely with engineering, DevOps, product, and release management teams.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills across application services, configuration layers, and system integrations.
Experience supporting platform upgrades, environment management, or release validation activities.
Experience documenting technical procedures, upgrade processes, and platform changes.
Familiarity with automation practices and DevOps tooling.
Interest in using AI tools to improve automation and operational efficiency.
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Highly Desirable
Hands-on experience designing, building, and operating rule based and agent driven automation within governed enterprise environments.
Strong automation engineering and DevOps capabilities, including scripting and workflow orchestration, with a demonstrated ability to convert manual runbooks into resilient, repeatable automation processes.
Experience integrating automation solutions with enterprise DevOps and platform engineering tools.
Good understanding of agentic AI concepts and how AI driven tools can be used to support automation, operational workflows, and platform management.
Experience defining or contributing to automation frameworks, standards, or governance models for automation within enterprise environments.
This keeps the section clear, modern, and credible, while reinforcing that the team is moving toward automation-first operations with AI assisted tooling.
