Who we are looking for

Alternative team manager, Assistant Vice President, is responsible for leading a team in a Trust Services Dept to meet the corporate goals and objectives.

As an AVP, the individual is required to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of the trust business in Japan, alternative asset operations and reporting, and accounting under JGAAP. The role will take a lead position in managing the department responsible for interactions with clients, general partners, and investment managers, including communications related to alternative product transactions.

The individual is expected to direct and plan the team’s activities with a strong focus on strategy, change management, resource planning and development, and risk mitigation. In addition, the individual may be required to attend client meetings to discuss and/or present operational processes.

The position is based in Tokyo, Japan.

What you will be responsible for

As alternative team manager, Assistant Vice President you will

  • Leads and manages the assigned team and takes complete ownership for strategic initiatives
  • Responsible for the setting and achievement of specific team performance targets and objectives
  • Ensure that the team’s projects and other strategic initiatives in the Department are effectively managed
  • Exercise operational oversight within the team and make sound operational decisions
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal & external clients
  • Drive the implementation and adoption of new technology
  • Support the optimization of the operating model and capacity creation
  • Assume responsibility for the implementation of client specific projects (new business development review, planning & roll out)
  • Monitor adherence with the corporate compliance and risk management policies and controls within the teams
  • Conduct performance planning and reviews for direct staff members
  • Constantly review the risks applicable to your area and ensure these are adequately mitigated through controls and strategy

  • Be able to review inter process and inter resource variations to enhance the controls and improve the SLAs / KPIs
  • Enforce and monitor adherence to the corporate compliance and risk management policies and controls within the team
  • Act as a role model and be committed to model appropriate management behavior at all times; consistently ‘live’ the organizational values.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or above
  • 10+ year experience in financial services and/or a back-office operations environment managing people and multiple functions
  • Domain specific experience is crucial with strong knowledge of alternative asset and Client/regulatory reporting.
  • Good leadership, negotiation and analytical skills, proven track record of efficiency creation, proven track record of staff development
  • Excellent in both English and Japanese communication skill
