Your role
Are you a legal counsel with a focus on investment banking transactions such as M&A advisory and capital market transactions?
Do you have experience with legal and regulatory matters related to investment banking transactions in Japan with cross-border and other international aspects?

We’re looking for a legal counsel to:
• provide in-house legal support to UBS’s investment banking business (“Global Banking”) with respect to transactions and business originated from, or targeting, Japan, including transactions that are executed outside Japan
• provide support to other areas of UBS business, in particular Global Markets (ie, securities sales and trading) and Global Wealth Management (ie, securities and commercial banking business for wealthy individuals), subject to the successful candidate’s expertise and the firm’s requirements
• provide advice to our business and control functions on legal frameworks, issues, negotiations and documentation

Your team
You’ll be working in UBS’s Global Banking legal function in Japan. As such, you will be reporting to, and working together with, our lead GB lawyer in Japan. At the same time, you will be part of the bank’s Investment Bank (IB) Legal team and more generally Group Legal team. You will have close interaction with colleagues in the wider legal team accordingly. We focus on delivering high-quality legal advice and solutions to our internal clients.
Your expertise
• worked as corporate counsel within an international bank or law firm for ideally not less than 7 years since qualification
• experience with investment banking transactions, including M&A advisory and capital market transactions
• hold a legal qualification in Japan “bengoshi” (additional common law qualification is not required but would be a plus)
• a team player who is friendly and approachable, is respectful to others, and enjoys collaborating with others.
• motivated and skilled at driving a proactive solution-orientated process
• a good communicator fluent in Japanese and English to support internal clients and colleagues both in Japan and overseas
