Key responsibilities

Are you an experienced estate tax professional? Does partnering with financial advisors and their largest and best clients on estate and financial planning issues motivate you? We’re looking for someone like you who can:

• enhance the UHNW client acquisition and retention process by contributing sophisticated advice related to wealth transfer and philanthropic planning
• independently review estate planning documents (e.g., Wills, Living Trusts, and Irrevocable Trusts, documents governing family business entities) to create a current estate analysis, including estimated estate and income tax calculations
• assist with modeling wealth transfer and philanthropic strategies for clients
• perform research on income, estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer (GST) tax and philanthropic issues

The team

As a member of the Advanced Planning group (comprised of former practicing estate planning attorneys and tax professionals) you will partner with financial advisors to proactively engage clients and prospects with a net worth of $50M and above in a dialogue surrounding advanced estate planning strategies. You will work directly with the Senior Wealth Strategist to prepare comprehensive analysis of a client's estate and philanthropic planning. You will also serve as a member of UBS's in-house "think-tank," by contributing to timely articles on estate planning, tax and philanthropy.

Your skills and experience

• ideally, 3+ years working at a financial, accounting or law firm that provided relevant experience to perform the duties described above
• advanced degree or designation required (e.g., JD, CPA, Paralegal certificate/degree)
• ability to review and understand both basic estate planning documents as well as documents implementing more complex estate planning strategies, such as irrevocable trusts, grantor retained annuity trusts (GRATs), qualified personal residence trusts (QPRTs), sales to intentionally defective grantor trusts and split-interest charitable trusts
• active Series 7 and 66 licenses (or are required to obtain them upon hire)
• ability to understand and assimilate complex personal financial information (tax returns, investment statements, incentive benefits, employee benefits and compensation, life insurance policies, business interests, qualified and nonqualified retirement plan information, pension and annuity information, social security, deferred compensation information, related retirement and benefits data, incentive and nonqualified stock option and restricted stock information)
• experience with the following areas, techniques and strategies: personal income, estate, gift, GST and trust tax disciplines, advanced wealth transfer planning techniques such as Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Qualified Personal Residence Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships, Defective Grantor Trusts, Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Charitable Lead Trusts, Private Foundations, Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax, planning with concentrated stock positions, incentive benefits, non-qualified stock options, incentive stock options, and restricted stock
• you’re curious to explore how AI can improve how we build, deliver, and optimize workflows. You do this with sound judgment – validating outputs and aligning with policies, risk standards, and ethical use

Salary information

The indicative gross base salary range as a full-time equivalent role:
• United States - New York - New York min USD 160000 - max USD 220000 /annum

The expected salary for this role will be determined by relevant factors which may include but are not limited to, role-required experience, qualifications, education, location and skill level.
