In your role as USSIM Audit Manager, you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity to lead and manage audit engagements that provide independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve USS’s operations. The Audit Manager helps USS accomplish its objectives by evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes. This is an exciting position within an established team offering a breadth of exposure to all levels of management, including Executive and Non-Executive Directors, across the Investment and Group Functions segments. As a trusted part of the Audit team you will be responsible for: Audit Planning & Execution - Provide input into audit plan development so that plans are risk-based and align with USSIM’s strategic priorities.
- Plan, execute and oversee audit across all parts of USS’s Investment and Group Functions segments. These audits will evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls and risk management systems.
- Ensure audits are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
- Review audit workpapers and reports prepared by other members of the IA team.
- Assess the design and effectiveness of internal controls.
- Recommend improvements to mitigate risks and enhance control environments.
- Coordinate with IA co-source provider where specialist resource support is required.
Reporting - Prepare clear, concise audit reports with actionable recommendations.
- Present findings to auditees.
- Track and follow up remediation actions.
Stakeholder Engagement - Build strong relationships with business units, senior leadership, Risk and Compliance teams.
- Communicate audit findings clearly and constructively.
Compliance - Carry out audits in accordance with the USS IA Audit Manual, Global Institute of Internal Audit (IIA) Standards and Internal Audit Code of Practice.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation - Leverage Data Analytics throughout the audit lifecycle to enhance the effectiveness of IA’s assurance capabilities.
- Support the IA team’s adoption of AI tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of IA’s assurance capabilities.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
Strategic Contribution - Contribute to the annual audit planning process.
- Support the development of audit methodology and use of data analytics.
- Monitor industry trends and regulatory changes affecting investment management.

- Relevant audit experience operating in the investment management sector.
- Familiarity with risk management frameworks and regulatory expectations.
- Experience of internal audit, external audit, risk management or compliance monitoring roles.
- Strong understanding of investment management operations and regulations (e.g., FCA, MiFID II).
